How To Maximize The Online Poker Experience

I continuously receive numerous inquiries from friends and acquaintances to share with them the techniques I used in developing how to make a profit with online gaming. In particular, there has always been considerable interest with online poker. I previously wrote an article about online poker and I strongly believe that everything I mentioned in that article stands true. However, for those people who have done the research and are still interested in taking a swing at making a profit through online gambling, this is how to increase your odds at winning with online poker sites.

1. Avoid the micro limits. With every poker site you will have the lowest limits possible you can play at. These are often referred to as the micro limits. The reason these games should be avoided at all costs is because you simply can't beat the rake in the long run. The rake is the amount the site will take from every pot you play. With every game played, a rake goes to the house. The micro limits on every site tend to take the highest percentage in relation to the pot thus making it virtually impossible to ever make a profit. Keep in mind the micro limits are only for recreational players, not for anyone interested in making money on these sites.

2. Manage your bankroll. This is of critical importance for anyone playing online. Sometimes it's easy to get lost in the virtual world and forget you are playing with real money. It may feel like a video game but it isn't. Treat you money the same as if you were walking into a casino with it. Try to avoid ever having more than 5% of your bankroll in play at any time. This type of money management will never leave you in jeopardy in the event of taking a bad beat or hitting a series of cold cards. Remember you want to be able to play your best game without ever worrying about the money. Bankroll management is the key.

3. Set limits. The online experience is considerably different from sitting in a casino game. You are going to play way more hands than you would in a casino, therefore your fatigue factor will not come into play until you have seen considerably more hands than you would in casino. Therefore, online you may play as many hands in an hour that would otherwise take you three hours in a casino. As such, you should set limits accordingly on your play. I tended to do it by wins or losses. Once I hit a certain amount either way I quit the session. I also never sat for more than an hour. You will find that online play can become tremendously addictive and setting limits will keep you fresh and able to make good decisions.

4. Consider specialization in the unpopular. In business as in many other things, those who specialize in high demand skill sets do well as a result of their experience and lack of competition. Poker can be the same way. If you chose to get good at games that aren't quite as popular as others, you will see a steady stream of profit from those trying those games without the proper skill and you will not have as much competition. So for example you may find it easier in the long run to earn a profit at Razz games than you will at Hold em games.

5. Stay focused. It is easy while playing online to get distracted. If you are playing at home, turn off the TV or radio while you are playing and definitely don't surf the web. Just pay attention to your game. A lapse in focus can easily cost you at a poker table and it should never be due to a distraction that could have been easily avoided. Instead, tune in to your game and maintain a peaceful environment for optimum results.
